12+1 Questions & Answers

1. What is your ideal working environment?
A place where people are motivated and working collaboratively towards a goal with clear direction. The more years I gather, the more I realize how the people you work with is by far and away the most important factor of happiness at the work place. More so than the "coolness" of a project or compensation.

2. What is your philosophy towards your work?
Point me at the target and I will do everything in my power to hit it. I believe a quality worker is someone you can give a task to and not have to worry if about it later. Conversely, if I am running lead, I want to be as clear as possible about the specifics of the target.

3. How do you handle criticism?
I've never really had an issue with criticism when it comes to art and design. I just want to produce the best creation/outcome possible and any input that can help me get there is welcome. Also, the longer I'm at it, the easier it is for me to scrap something and start from square one. The larger the body of work created over the years the less precious everything becomes.

4. What inspires you?
Nature – from the spectacular views to the amazingness of an egg shell.
Great art and design created by the human mind and hand.
Stories about people overcoming extreme adversity.

5. What single artist/designer has had the most impact on you?
Bill Sienkiewicz - saved me from living a life of blah.

6. Which two organizations outside your own do you know the most people at and why?
Volleyball Meetups – because volleyball is my primary recreational activity.
Home Depot – because I am always there.

7. Do you believe in nature or nurture?
I used to lean heavily towards nature, but as I learn more about growth mindset and neural plasticity, I realize I've been severely underestimating nurture.

8. What are some of your favorite movies?
Comedy – Some Like it Hot, Fish Called Wanda, Something about Mary
Action – Back to the Future, Die Hard, The Matrix
Drama – Ordinary People, Braveheart, Almost Famous

9. How would you rate your memory?
A 9/10 in some areas like interactions and conversations with people. A 2.5/10 in other areas like what I ate yesterday.

10. What is an odd talent you have?
I can write backwards and/or upside down without too much trouble.

11. What's your biggest irrational fear?
I have a fear of crickets - particularly those tan prehistoric-looking ones I find in Maryland. I know they are supposed to be harmless but with their creepiness and powerful jumping ability, I feel they have a realistic shot of getting me - gaah.

12. If you were to get rid of one state in the U.S., which would it be and why?
Alaska - because it ruins visual cohesion on the U.S. map being so huge and separate. It is usually not even drawn to scale. Hawaii gets a pass because it is tiny and obviously its own island. If you are from Alaska, don't be offended because your place is wondrous and vast.

12+1. How much is enough?
Just enough.
